Montevideo, Uruguay

It was a long time traveling to get to Montevideo and none of it had gone very smoothly. When we arrived it was still overcast and raining which didn't make Katie too happy. The next day however turned out to be beautiful. I went roaming around Montevideo and Katie went for a long run along the coast of the Rio Plata/Atlantic Ocean. We both enjoyed the city at the end of the day and had a good time that evening. We decided to leave the next day for the better beaches in eastern Uruguay but we would stay again in Montevideo again on our way back to Buenos Aires.

Montevideo was a great city. The majority of the residential streets were lined with huge sycamores, along the coast there was a great path with lots of recreational areas, the architecture was beautiful, and it wasn't such a large city compared to its neighbor just across the river, Buenos Aires. People were out and enjoying life in Montevideo. There were folks fishing, running, laying out and most of them seemed to be drinking mate. Mate is essentially a cup of herbs with hot water poured over the them. A straw with a filter on the end was used to draw out the herb infused hot water then more is poured in and passed to the next person in the group.
