San Cristobol, Mexico

To make it to the beautiful city of San Cristobal my new friends from the UK and I decided to pair into groups and hitch-hike. To make it more interesting we decide to make it a race with the losers buying the winners a round of beers. We all started from the highway heading towards San Cristobal and the race was on. We all caught rides pretty quickly but julie and I caught the last ride. That was just fine though. We met a great woman who was into the race and passed her way ahead of the traffic and soon we passed the second group to catch a ride. They were a little surprised to see us pass them! As for the first group, who we kept looking for ahead of us, we didn't pass them until we reached San Cristobal. They were dropped off in the city and were excited for moments as our car slowed down. They thought they ha another ride but we just wanted to wave and take a picture of them. Ha! The woman we drove with dropped us right off at the central park where we had planned to meet and we already had our beers ordered by the time the others walked up. Ahhh, sweet victory.

We spent the next few days together having a great time in San Cristobal. The city was beautiful. It had really unique mix of charming colonial architecture and heavily indigenous roots, all in a very temperate yet lush climate in the mountains of Chiapas.

One of the most interesting sights of Chiapas was the market place. San Cristobal is surrounded by eight different indigenous groups of mostly Mayan descent. Many of these groups brought there goods to the market as well as there unique customs and style of dress. Folks here aren't usually too keen to have their photographs taken so I had to be a little sneaky about it. Other than the colorful visitors the market goods alone were a beautiful sight.
