La Paz, Bolivia to Oruro

From Lake Titicaca I bussed it for a few hours to get to La Paz, the capital of Bolivia. It was a cool city! I will be back with a better camera so I didn't take too many photos here. I spent a couple days in the capital but the second day was mostly spent recovering. My first day there I met a couple of english guys with our long night turning into an early morning.

La Paz is famous for it elevation being over 2 miles above sea level. I had been acclimated to the higher elevation so it wasn't tough to get around, but many people recently arriving from lower elevations had trouble with breathing and getting enough oxygen into their system. One of the surprises about La Paz was all of the commercialism. You could buy almost anything there! In my wondering around the city I bought a few things including a much needed pair of good shoes. There was so much to see i the city that I barely scratched the surface. I'm looking forward to seeing more of the city when I make it back from the southern part of South America.

From La Paz I traveled another 4 hours to the city of Oruro. There I bought a Train ticket for the next day that would take me to the border with Argentina. I was on my way to meet my sister at the Iguazul falls between Argentina and Brazil and it was time to get there. Oruro was a muddy mess when I arrived. Heavy rains had flooded the streets and left a fine muddy silt throughout the city. It was a mess but life when on and the town's anniversary wouldn't wait. There was a party in the park that night and after some cleaning up, an hours long parade through the muddy streets the next day. Later in the afternoon I was off by train to Argentine, supposedly to be 15 hour trip but actually taking a little more than 20 hours.
