I spent a long time in Buenos Aires and there was a lot to see and do apart from avoiding thieves. One of the public art exhibits was particularly interesting; it was a set of bear sculptures representing most of the countries around the world. Each bear was painted and textured differently to represent it's unique country. The exhibit tours around the world with the idea of promoting world peace. As an artistic gap filler here is a selection images from the exhibit. The next post will be back on the road again, making my way down to Patagonia.
I've always wondered what the act of painting a wooden sculpture in public plazas or front yards added to international (or even inter-neighborhood) understanding.
In April 2008 I reduced my life down to a small storage shed and one backpack to begin a journey through the Carribean, Central and South America. On my trip I will be visiting my sister Jenny, who is Peace Corps volunteer in Jamaica, as well friends that I made while serving as a Peace Corps volunteer in Honduras. I will likely be gone for more than a year making my way from the Carribean down to the tip of South America - In this blog I will describe the experiences I have along the way.

They have cows in Minnesota and Brutus Buckeyes in Columbus, all decorated. A trend for World Peace (or woorled peas) - who knows.
Thanks for the send, and the pictures.
